It seems that pleading by the residents of Oakmont to Echo Real Estate has fallen on deaf ears. They are well under way to subdividing the former Giant Eagle into at least 4 separate units. While some might see this as progress, most would contend that Oakmont isn't in dire need of addition commercial space to lease. Take a walk down Allegheny River Boulevard and you will see a number of vacant storefronts already.
 One previously vacant storefront has been rejuvenated and is now the home of Oakmont Deli & Specialty Steaks. This business is a breath of fresh air for our community. It's a real deli - featuring high quality Boar's Head Brand meats and cheeses, Pittsburgh's own Breadworks breads, homemade soups and sides, and many other locally sourced staples. And the clever twist of adding high quality steaks to this offering really makes Oakmont Deli & Specialty Steak a homerun. These aren't your 1/2" thick prepackaged, shrink wrapped, nitrogen stored grocery store steaks. No, no - these are steaks that you decide the thickness and are hand cut for you the old fashioned way. This website contains an online discussion forum for sharing your ideas and brainstorming to demonstrate value to the potential grocery store developers for a new supermarket in Oakmont! We are gathering articles that have been published on the web and in print and will attempt to locate copies of the letters submitted to and received back from Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and Giant Eagle. The Giant Eagle Parking Lot is Available! |
 The blight on our community in the shape of the former Giant Eagle grocery store got a little easier on the eyes recently.
It turns out that the Borough has been working on Giant Eagle to lease the vacant (chained off) parking lot to the Borough. Any of you who have tried to visit our beautiifully renovated library know what a challenge the parking situation is.
If you've been staying away due to the parking, wait no longer!
Rumor has it that Giant Eagle is leasing the parking lot to the Borough for a dollar. That's a pretty good deal for the community - thank you to the Oakmont Council and Giant Eagle for doing the right thing.
